Mission, Vision and Values Statement


Iona College Mission Statement

Iona College is a caring academic community, inspired by the legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers, which embodies opportunity, justice, and the liberating power of education. Iona College’s purpose is to foster intellectual inquiry, community engagement, and an appreciation for diversity. In the tradition of American Catholic Higher Education, Iona College commits its energies and resources to the development of graduates recognized for their ethics, creativity and problem-solving abilities; their independent and adaptable thinking; their joy in lifelong learning; and their enduring integration of mind, body and spirit.

The Vision Statement

Iona College will be the destination of choice for tenacious students who will engage passionately in an intellectual, inclusive, just, and ethical personal journey that leads them to a rewarding and responsible future. Iona will promote these pursuits by offering distinctive and rigorous academic programs; recruiting and retaining dynamic, diverse faculty and staff; and delivering robust student experiences that foster lifelong engagement and service as global citizens.

Values Statement

Iona College embraces the values inherent in being a student centered College, rooted in religious tradition, including the pursuit of and transmission of truth, knowledge and freedom of inquiry. More specifically, Iona expects:
I - Inclusion …support for actions that advance diversity, cultural understanding and success for all.
O - Opportunity …support for change, innovation, entrepreneurship and informed risk-taking.
N - Nimbleness …support for agility, compassion, communication and service to others.
A - Accountability …support for transparency and stewardship of the earth, human, physical and financial resources.
