The Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation was established in 2017 thanks to the generosity and record $15 million gift to Iona from James`69, `01H and Anne Marie Hynes. The Hynes Institute is an emerging program that aims to prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders to move the world. It aims to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to create, innovate and lead in a global economy.
Under the direction of Endowed Professor and Founding Program Director Dr. Christoph Winkler, the Hynes Institute developed a robust program that provides students with an environment that fosters an entrepreneurial mindset through practice and creative problem-solving across all disciplines and schools. In detail, the Hynes Institute offers:
- Advanced Certificate in Entrepreneurship & Innovation (0599)
- Co-curricular programming such as student clubs, speaker series, workshops, competitions, community engagement, internships, as well as coworking, mentoring and networking opportunities
- Work with Hynes Faculty Fellows, Entrepreneurs in Residence, accomplished alumni and visiting entrepreneurs
- Access to start-up support, mentorship, funding, and GaelVentures, a newly established community incubator
