HCM 655 - Management of Long Term Care Services The course is designed to prepare students to become a licensed nursing home administrator in the State of New York; course topics follow the Domains of Practice for Nursing Home Administrators developed by the national Association of Boards of Examiners of Licensed Nursing Home Administrators (NAB). Course topics include the continuum of long-term care services, characteristics of nursing home residents, resident assessment and resident care, regulations and the Long-Term Care Survey process, facility leadership and management issues, human resources, reimbursement and financial management, plant and environmental management, quality assessment and quality indicators, and emerging issues such as staff retention and culture change in long-term care. The course is a distance learning course (DL component utilizes Blackboard). Course assignments include weekly readings, participation in online discussion boards, case study analysis and write-up, a self-directed site visit, web-based research using the Medicare Nursing Home Compare dataset and a comprehensive final exam.
