SPA 721 - Introduction to Spanish Linguistics This course is a survey of language as a reflection of the human mind, society and culture. It focuses on various domains in particular as they come to bear on Spanish. It begins with an introduction of the different levels of language structure (phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax) as represented in contemporary linguistic theory. This is followed by an examination of specific topics related to language in social contexts, such as language variation, language choice and language change. Attention is also given to important issues of language acquisition.
This course provides a good background in Spanish language and in language in general. Highly recommended to MA students in Spanish and to those who are preparing to be teachers of Spanish. Course conducted in Spanish. Lecture Credits: 3
