SCS 416 - Introduction to Cleft/Lip Palate & Velopharyngeal Insufficiency This course will provide students with an introduction to the causes and effects of Cleft Lip/Palate and Velopharyngeal Insufficiency to speech/language development. Introductory information on normal vs. abnormal embryological development leading to cleft lip/palate will be followed by information on feeding and nutritional support as well as surgical and therapeutic remediation of cleft lip/palate. Basic diagnostic and therapeutic program design will conclude the course. Audio and visual support as well as guest lecturers may be provided by Operation Smile’s International Medical Education Division. Laboratory Credits: 1 Prerequisite: SCS 364
