SCS 416 - Introduction to Cleft/Lip Palate & Velopharyngeal Insufficiency

This course will provide students with an introduction to the causes and effects of Cleft Lip/Palate and Velopharyngeal Insufficiency to speech/language development. Introductory information on normal vs. abnormal embryological development leading to cleft lip/palate will be followed by information on feeding and nutritional support as well as surgical and therapeutic remediation of cleft lip/palate. Basic diagnostic and therapeutic program design will conclude the course. Audio and visual support as well as guest lecturers may be provided by Operation Smile’s International Medical Education Division.
