It examines the meaning of social welfare in contemporary society. Social welfare is defined, and the history and current patterns of provision of services within social welfare systems are explored. Historical antecedents are compared to recent approaches to the same issues. The role of values is examined, particularly as these values impact upon policy. Social welfare policy and social change are examined from many different perspectives. Lecture Credits: 4 Open to all students
