NS 406 - Neurobiology This course introduces students to the biology of the nervous system and its relationship to behavior and disease. The course covers topics including the cell biology of neurons, neuronal cell communication and the action potential, synapse structure and function, neuronal cell specializations including axons and dendrites, membrane receptors and intra- and intercellular signaling systems, as well as the gross organization of the brain. The molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s will also be discussed.
