RST 335 - Liberation Theologies in the Catholic Tradition and Beyond This course invites students to survey the rich legacy of Christian and non-Christian liberation theologies as we assess the role of religion in the social progress that has already been made and determine the work that must still be done. Liberation Theology studies the history of social justice movements for the freedom of the marginalized and oppressed around the world, which characteristically gives “preferential option to the poor”. Modern social movements for liberation span from the global South, including Latin America, the African diaspora, and beyond to the Middle East and South Asia.
