FPA 254 - Opera and Society This course provides a broad interdisciplinary survey of opera, its forms and sub-genres, and its major figures while it explores the cultural resonance and enduring influence of several major operas. Works of opera will be examined not only as points where the artistic concerns of music, theater, dance, literature, and language intersect but also as expressions of historical conceptions of class, race, gender, human rights, and social responsibilities central to the study of the humanities.
