Media, Politics, and Society Minor

Media, Politics, and Society is an interdisciplinary minor is open to students in any major who may be interested in the relationship and influence of mass media upon politics and society. The program consists of three required courses, including one experiential/internship course, and electives to be chosen from a list of recommended courses under the advisement of the faculty in the Departments of Political Science and Mass Communications.

Objectives

The goals of the program are:

  • to provide students with the opportunity to critically analyze the influence of the mass media on politics, of politics on the media, and the impact on society
  • to assist students in the development of practical skills in at least one area of mass communication and political science through internships and/or experiential learning
  • to prepare students to be successful consumers of political information and engaged citizens
  • to prepare students for professions in mass communication and political science and related areas, for graduate study, and for advanced professional training

Choose 2 courses from the list below, Mass Communication majors must choose at least 1 class from a sub-group other than Mass Communications; Political Science majors must choose at least 1 class from a sub-group other than Political Science.

Note


* MCO majors taking MCO 432 in fulfillment of their major requirements will choose 4 courses for 12 credits from the list below. The courses must be drawn from at least 2 different sub-groups.
