At its very core the public health field is interdisciplinary and has been from its inception. The solidification of the discipline has coalesced through a long and circuitous inclusion of the natural sciences, medical and health fields, social and behavioral sciences, technological development, business, and government and public policy. Contemporary public health studies disease trends in human populations, how to improve and promote human health for all communities across all sectors of life, how the natural and human-made environment influences sentient and sapient life, the goal to improve quality of care in the health care system, and how to promote wellness across all human populations.

Minor Curriculum and Requirements
There is one required course - the (SOC 304) Sociology of Health, Illness & Medicine. In conjunction with Politics of Global Health (POL 370) or Health Economics (380), the student will have a well-rounded exposure to a behavioral science approach to community and public health. There are four other areas students must complete at least one course: statistics, environmental science and biology, health care management, and communication and ethics.
All Public Health minors are required to complete a minimum of 18 credit hours (6 courses) to complete the minor. These 18 credits are broken down into 5 subfields. There is no required course sequence.
1. Community Health, Global Health, & Health Economics (one courses) - 3 Credits
2. Statistics (one course) - 3 credits (one course) - 3 Credits
3. Environmental Science and Biology (one course) - 3 Credits
4. Health Care Management (one course) - 3 Credits
5. Communications and Ethics (one course) - 3 Credits
