Public History and the Digital Humanities Minor
|
|
Open and relevant to students in any major across all four of Iona University’s schools and institutes, this interdisciplinary minor explores how the fields of public history and digital humanities impact our modern lives. Students in this program are empowered to take their knowledge of the past and apply it to the opportunities and challenges of today, gaining scholarly and pre-professional experience along the way. Blending liberal arts and humanities learning with professional studies, students will gain both scholarly and pre-professional experience through a foundational course and an internship. Drawing on the unique resources and programming of the ITPS, students will study various public history methods, such as museum management, as well as curatorial and social media engagement, and gain experience using digital tools, such as AI, data visualization, mapping, digitization, virtual reality and textual analysis. From this program, students will learn valuable skills and historical knowledge that can be applied across diverse professional settings.
