SPA 414 - Transatlantic Connections: Spain and Latin America This course explores the historical connections between Spain and Latin America that took place in the larger context of the Transatlantic world around discourses of discovery, colonialism, slavery, empire, nationhood, race, gender and culture, among others. We will examine the formation and development of those discourses in connection to the Spanish-speaking world through the study of historical texts and writings, literary works and essays, visual art, music and film. Students will approach critically those connections across the Atlantic by focusing on specific historical moments in order to examine and appreciate different but still interconnected perspectives and cultural practices. Lecture Credits: 3 Prerequisite: SPA 305 or SPA 307 Offered in the Spring Semester
