HST 317 - Advanced Topics in the History of Violence This course presents and carefully considers specific topics concerning the history of the enactment, control, representation, and interpretation of violence: for example, law enforcement, gun violence, racial and ethnic violence, domestic violence, religious violence, vigilantism, colonialism, imperialism, nationalism, genocide, gender norms, discourses of violence, the portrayal of real and fictional violence in news and other media, and the concept of a ‘Civilizing Process’. Lecture Credits: 3 Prerequisite: HST 216 Offered in Fall & Spring
