ENG 320 - Modern Comedy What makes us laugh? What does laughter tell us about the cultural norms of a society and its members? This course will survey a variety of comic works through a number of different critical lenses, including history, geography, genre, and performance. At its completion, students should be able to reflect and engage with comedies with particular attention to the historical, political, and cultural contexts from which they emerge and are received, the forms and structures of comic works, and the ways in which comedies make our societies and ourselves intelligible to us. Lecture Credits: 3 Prerequisites: ENG 120 or ENG 122 and either ENG 212 or ENG 213 , or ENG 214 Offered in the Fall Semester
