EDU 660 - Foundations of Special Education This course offers a thorough examination of the historical and philosophical foundations of education, with a focus on the core elements of special education. It addresses the rights and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the special education process and underscores the importance of developing human relations skills to foster productive partnerships between schools, homes, and communities. The course also emphasizes the educator’s role as a change agent in advocating for and establishing inclusive learning environments for a diverse student body. Key components include a detailed look at federal legislation in special education. In addition, participants will gain practical knowledge in assistive technology and differentiated instruction, essential for teaching in both general and special education settings. Lecture Credits: 3 Offered in Fall & Spring Students may test out of the course with a departmental assessment.
