Iona University

Iona University is where your story starts. Where you’ll be given the means to dream and find meaning in your dreams. To serve while you learn and learn while you serve. To fight the good fight. To own your path. So, where are you going? Iona University. Learn outside the lines.

A Place and a Purpose

The history of Iona University began on the isle of Iona, located in the Inner Hebrides just off the west coast of Scotland. It was on this tiny island that the Irish monk Columba established an abbey from which missionaries went forth to teach and evangelize. The island became a center of faith and learning that contributed significantly to the civilization and cultural development of Western Europe. It was in the spirit of this heritage that the religious order of educators, the Congregation of Christian Brothers, founded Iona University in New Rochelle, N.Y., in 1940, embodying opportunity, justice, and the liberating power of education.

Today, the University has expanded to two campuses, both situated in safe, engaging, and welcoming communities. Iona’s beautiful 45-acre campus in New Rochelle, N.Y. is only two miles from the Long Island Sound and 20 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. In addition, Iona’s recent campus acquisition in Bronxville, N.Y., just three miles from Iona’s New Rochelle campus, paves the way for the establishment of the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences as well as additional athletic fields and performance spaces for student activities. Both the New Rochelle and Bronxville campuses provide a comfortable, intimate learning environment.

At Iona, you’ll find a campus focused on intellectual inquiry, community engagement and an appreciation for diversity. The University’s legacy of providing national leadership in service learning, experiential and entrepreneurial education and civic engagement is designed to help students learn as they intend to live - with purpose. Iona provides students with the tools needed to build a strong educational foundation with the freedom to shape it around their interests, passions and career goals. Upon graduation from Iona, students venture into the world as informed, critical, and responsible individuals equipped to participate actively in culture and society.

Iona students can expect small class sized, engaged professors and an active campus life. Iona currently offers over 65 undergraduate programs and degrees as well as 40 graduate programs within the School of Arts & Science, LaPenta School of Business, and the newly established NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences. With an alumni base of over 50,000 around the world, Iona is a diverse community of learners and leaders.
