NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences

Vision for the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences

The NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences supports the mission of Iona University by providing students with a cutting-edge education in health sciences built on the foundation of the liberal arts. Principally located on the University’s campus in Bronxville, N.Y., the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences offers a new vision for collaborative health care education, modern workforce development, and community care.

In support of the Iona University Mission, the School of Health Sciences strives to:

  • provide students a cutting-edge education that complements their foundation in the liberal arts and involves an appropriate mix of didactic instruction and clinical practice;
  • give students opportunities to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations in community-based clinics and internships;
  • develop innovative therapeutic strategies to help patients/clients through curricula designed in collaboration with NewYork-Presbyterian, the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Gold Foundation;
  • train students in a team-based approach with professionals from different specialties in Iona University’s Center for Interprofessional Training, Practice and Research to increase effective communication and empathy:
  • emphasize the relationship of public policy to healthcare delivery;
  • actively engage in the prolific problems of today’s healthcare system such as the inequitable distribution of healthcare to minority and immigrant communities and those with low economic stature in the tradition of the Irish Christian Brothers;
  • support students in the integration of mind, body and spirit through mindfulness and resilience, necessary to maintain work-life balance and to sustain a fulfilling and long-lasting career while achieving personal growth.

NewYork-Presbyterian has supported the creation of the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences with a gift of $20 million. NewYork-Presbyterian is ranked the #1 hospital in New York, according to U.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals rankings.
