CS 231 - Programming in a UNIX Environment


This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of the UNIX operating system. Students will be provided instruction in the C programming language with emphasis towards scientific applications. In addition, instruction in an object oriented language such as C++ will be provided. These programming experiences will provide valuable experience in utilizing the UNIX operating system. Two hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory will be provided each week. The laboratory time will consist of one hour in a scheduled, supervised environment and the other in an open, unsupervised period.
