NUR 500 - Role Development in Advanced Nursing Practice: Philosophical, Theoretical, & Ethical Basis This course explores skills and strategies essential to transitioning to advanced practice roles in nursing, including individual self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses critical to new roles. The impact of historical, social, political, legal, and economic influences on advanced nursing practice will be analyzed. Emphasis will be on translating knowledge of philosophical, theoretical, and ethical concepts to assess and evaluate advanced practice nursing care. The role of the advanced practice nurse in promoting alignment of patient safety, quality of care, and fiscal and regulatory responsibility will be examined. Strategies for promoting cultural competence, positive interprofessional relationships, communication and collaboration, and their effect on patient and population health will be analyzed.
