PHL 110 - Introduction to Philosophy In this course, we will be examining some of the major themes and problems of Western philosophy as exemplified by a number of writings of some of the major figures of Western philosophy. We will be focusing on five areas: logic, philosophy of religion, metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. In each case we will be looking at a number of articles that take some conflicting positions on the questions being addressed. Part of your responsibility in reading these will be not only to concentrate on understanding what is being said, but also to think critically about the issues under discussion. In this course, being able to think critically about these issues is more important than simply memorizing what is being said. We will work on all this in class.
