CHM 115 - Chemistry and the Environment CHM 115 is an introductory lecture and laboratory course that introduces students to chemistry in the context of societal concern about the human environment. Issues for study may include resource use, ecological interrelationships, chemistry of climate change, sources and remediation of pollution, implications of biochemical and biotechnological advances for humans and the natural world, conservation and efficiency, and relationship of consumer product sources and composition to environmental concerns. In addition the methodology used in hazard and risk assessment will be examined. These topics will be presented in the context of fundamental chemical and biochemical concepts such as energy, atomic and molecular structure, the scientific laws of conservation, the cell, etc. Lecture and Laboratory 3 Credits Offered in Fall & Spring
