Biochemistry Electives
Two biochemistry electives are required, as advised (5-8 credits), chosen from the following courses. One of either CHM 441 or CHM 442 may be used to fulfill one of the required biochemistry electives.
Note:
Electives should be chosen with the aid of an advisor based upon the student’s interest and goals. For pre-medical and pre-dental students, BIO 480/481 are strongly recommended to fulfill one of the required biochemistry electives.
* Continuation in the Biochemistry/Chemistry Major
A minimum of a C grade in CHM 110 - General Chemistry 2 is required in order to take chemistry and biochemistry courses above the 100-level. A student who repeats CHM 209 - Organic Chemistry I must earn a minimum grade of C in the second attempt in order to remain in a Chemistry or Biochemistry major.
A student who does not earn a C or higher in CHM 110 may retake the course to remain a degree candidate in the major. A student who does not earn a C or higher in the second attempt of CHM 110 and/or CHM 209 must meet with the Department Chair and the Advising Center to help the student choose a major that will lead to successful degree completion. If the student requires further assistance, the chair will refer the student to the Dean.
