BIO 419 - Biochemistry: Proteins and Metabolism This course is a one-semester intensive biochemistry course designed for biology majors who are planning to continue their education in pre-professional or graduate school. The course will begin with a thorough investigation into the structure, function, and regulation of proteins, including the amino acids that make up proteins. Particular emphasis will be placed on enzymes and their kinetics and catalysis. The course will then delve into the structure of carbohydrates and lipids and finally into their metabolism. Principles such as acid/base relations and bioenergetics will be covered during this course and emphasis will be placed on how the three macromolecules participate together in the living cell. Lecture 3 Credits Prerequisites: BIO 211 and BIO 399 Offered in the Fall Semester
