PHY 323 - Modern Physics I A treatment of atomic and nuclear physics in terms of the Schroedinger Theory. Topics include: relativity, thermal radiation and the origin of quantum theory; Bohr Theory, particles and waves; Schroedinger Equation and Solutions; one-electron atom, magnetic moments; spin; multi-electron atoms; x-rays; composition of nuclei, nuclear models, alpha, beta, gamma radiation, nuclear reactions, nuclear forces, and elementary particles.
