MTH 440 - History and Foundations of Mathematics Evolution of mathematics as an abstract speculative science. A survey of the outstanding contributions to the development of mathematics; the hypothetical nature of mathematical truths; examination of some of the important postulational systems of modern geometries and algebras; the role of symbolic logic and set theory in the modern structure of mathematics.
