HST 355 - The Soviet Experiment and Post-Soviet Successor States An analysis of Russian civilization and the impact of the West, Special attention will be given to Marxism, the nature of Soviet experiment in democracy, totalitarianism, policy toward nationalities, and the implications of the Russian Revolution. The socioeconomic and cultural problems of communism and the reasons for its demise will be also discussed. The present-day conditions of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will be examined as well.
