MFT 560 - Theories and Systemic Approaches I As a continuation of the introductory course, this course will facilitate introduction and knowledge of the Modern models in the field of Family Therapy. Students will learn the evolution, pioneers, constructs and concepts, assessments and interventions, as well as similarities and differences of the classic systems theories. Several of the Modern models such as Bowen, Structural, Experiential, Strategic, Contextual will be covered in the course. Students will learn how these models understand individual, couple and family dynamics. The course will offer in-depth critical analysis of the interface of contextual factors such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion/spirituality, ability, etc., with these classical family therapy theories. The course will assist students develop perceptual and conceptual knowledge of the relevance of these theories to working with contemporary diverse individuals, families and relationships. Additionally, the introduction of clinical case conceptualization within these classical models will be covered.
